With a growing youth program, First Baptist Church in Andrews, Texas did not want to lose any momentum reaching their community’s teenagers. The church leaders reached out to Halo to help design a facility which builds on the momentum of the ministry and also creates greater opportunity to make an impact on the youth of Andrews. The existing land across 2nd Street from the main church campus provided the perfect location for this new building.
To engage with the youth of today, the design needed to allow for flexibility of worship, teaching, and activity. Anchoring the building is the Rock multi-use area with multiple break-out areas around an open, two-story warehouse themed worship space. The Youth Hangout includes areas for small group discussions as well as a gaming station. Further, into the space, there is a bistro to serve drinks and food during the youth events. Across the worship area is a two-story bank of classrooms stacked similar to what you would see in a shipping yard. Large garage doors are used to create an open environment with the worship space. More small group space was designed on the mezzanine that looks out onto the worship area below. In addition to the youth ministry area of the building, a gym was designed which provides many avenues for community outreach. With basketball and volleyball leagues on the rise, FBC Andrews saw the opportunity to allow athletics to be a way for people to be introduced to the church.
With a growing youth program, this new youth facility will help spread the word of God throughout Andrews’ youth and the surrounding community as well.
